Safe Learning Environment
Since we opened our doors in September 2008, Pride Academy Charter School has been committed to providing a safe, structured environment in which students will flourish as learners. Our core values of peace, respect, integrity, determination, and empathy are the bedrock upon which we have created and maintained a culture of high academic, character and behavior expectations. We have always believed it to be our responsibility as a school to address concerns with bullying that are brought to our attention. Concerns with Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) and all matters of student safety are addressed immediately, whether they occur at school, off-grounds, or online. The passage of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights revealed Pride Academy Charter School to be a school in step with the heart of the legislation and already in compliance with many of its requirements.
Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights
Since the September 2011-2012 school year, our school district/school has conscientiously implemented the district and school requirements outlined in the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, including the appointment of a school Anti-Bullying Specialist and District Anti-Bullying Coordinator. Our efforts have yielded positive results that continue to improve yearly. Our annual survey results indicate that our parents, guardians and students feel that Pride Academy Charter School is a safe school.
Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, the State Department of Education requires that districts complete a HIB Self Assessment and post the resulting grade to the district website.

During the 2018-2019 School Year, Pride Academy’s School Safety Team, Administration, and Board conducted the School Self-Assessment and based on the results, a grade has been determined by the Commissioner of Education. The grade is a raw score of data derived from the Self-Assessment rubric and the sum of the ratings for all indicators within the 8 core elements on the Self-Assessment. The maximum total score for a school is 78 points. Pride Academy Charter School received a score of 78 out of 78 points.
We received the following scores for each of the 8 core elements:
|1||HIB Programs, Approaches or other initiatives||15 of 15 points|
|2||Training on BOE Approved HIB Policy||9 of 9 points|
|3||Other Staff Instruction and Training Programs||15 of 15 points|
|4||Curriculum and Instruction on HIB and Related Information and Skills||6 of 6 points|
|5||HIB Personnel||9 of 9 points|
|6||School-Level HIB Incident Reporting Procedure||6 of 6 points|
|7||HIB Investigative Procedure||12 of 12 points|
|8||HIB Reporting||6 of 6 points|
While completing the Self-Assessment, we learned that our school district/school has demonstrated strengths in these areas: HIB Programs and Aproaches; Training on BOE Approved HIB Policy; Other Staff Instruction and Training Programs, Curriculum and Instruction on HIB and Related Information and Skills, HIB Personnel, School-Level HIB Incident Reporting Procedure, HIB Investigative Procedure, and HIB Reporting.
