Safe Learning Environment

Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights

Since we opened our doors in September 2008, Pride Academy Charter School has been committed to providing a safe, structured environment in which students will flourish as learners. Our core values of peace, respect, integrity, determination, and empathy are the bedrock upon which we have created and maintained a culture of high academic, character and behavior expectations. We have always believed it to be our responsibility as a school to address concerns with bullying that are brought to our attention. Concerns with Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) and all matters of student safety are addressed immediately, whether they occur at school, off-grounds, or online. The passage of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights revealed Pride Academy Charter School to be a school in step with the heart of the legislation and already in compliance with many of its requirements.

Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights

Since the September 2011-2012 school year, our school district/school has conscientiously implemented the district and school requirements outlined in the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, including the appointment of a school Anti-Bullying Specialist and District Anti-Bullying Coordinator. Our efforts have yielded positive results that continue to improve yearly. Our annual survey results indicate that our parents, guardians and students feel that Pride Academy Charter School is a safe school.

Anti-Bullying Reports

Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, the State Department of Education requires that districts complete a HIB Self Assessment and post the resulting grade to the district website.

During the 2022-2023 School Year, Pride Academy’s School Safety Team, Administration, and Board conducted the School Self-Assessment and based on the results, a grade has been determined by the Commissioner of Education. The grade is a raw score of data derived from the Self-Assessment rubric and the sum of the ratings for all indicators within the 8 core elements on the Self-Assessment. The maximum total score for a school is 78 points. Pride Academy Charter School received a score of 74 out of 78 points.

We received the following scores for each of the 8 core elements:

Core Element
Score
1 HIB Programs, Approaches or other initiatives 15 of 15 points
2 Training on BOE Approved HIB Policy 9 of 9 points
3 Other Staff Instruction and Training Programs 14 of 15 points
