We have a lot of talented, dedicated staff at our school, but today we want to highlight one teacher in particular. This inspiring woman has set up an affordable store to help kids, parents, and teachers get access to the materials they need to learn and teach from home.
Always doing what’s best for the education of the young minds in our community, we couldn’t be prouder to have them as part of our teaching staff.
So without further ado, we’d like to introduce you all to the fantastic Ms. Brittany Boddie-Blackmon and Beyond The Classroom.
Who is Ms. Brittany Boddie-Blackmon?
Ms. Boddie-Blackmon is currently the 6th-7th grade science teacher here at Pride Academy. She’s been with us for three school terms now but has been teaching science at middle school level for 7 years.
Before she fell in love with teaching at the middle school level, she worked at her family-run child care center from her early teen years, ultimately choosing middle school education as her career path of choice.
When working at the child care center, she held a lot of titles, including Head Teacher for over a hundred scholars.
Ms. Boddie-Blackmon is a wonderful teacher and always provides her scholars with the best possible education. She’s supportive, kind and genuinely cares about what her scholars are learning.
Why did Ms. Boddie-Blackmon set up Beyond The Classroom?
Ms. Boddie-Blackmon knew that the children in our community were at a disadvantage regarding access to learning materials and resources. This disadvantage became even more apparent during the pandemic. Parents struggled to find laptops for online learning and other learning resources to assist their children at home.
In her quest to help children get the education they needed at home, she started advising parents on what she thought would best support their children’s education while schools were closed.
She supplied parents with:
- Learning boards
- Learning games
- Educational flashcards
- Charts
- Skill books
- …and so much more!
The idea of creating an affordable online store shop to supply parents, teachers, and scholars with the means to continue their education and teaching no matter the situation, soon came to fruition.
Why should Pride parents use Beyond The Classroom?
The ideology of “It takes a village to raise a child” is where the name for her shop ‘Beyond The Classroom’ came from, because teachers can only do so much.
Parents and other non-traditional educators are integral for a child to get the most out of their learning and Beyond The Classroom provides them with the help and support they need to do this. It provides parents with the same materials teachers use in classrooms to give their children the academic help they need when access to school isn’t possible or is restricted.
Ms. Brittany Boddie-Blackmon explains: ‘Learning doesn’t stop in the classroom, and I believe that if we want our children to succeed at a higher education level, we all need to put in the time to help them learn every day. This is why the store’s slogan is: Learning doesn’t stop at school; it goes beyond the classroom.’
What can parents get at Beyond The Classroom?
