There have been many hard-working, talented, and brilliant individuals at our school over the years, but today we want to share the story of a particular past scholar who’s been creating a name for himself in the world of art.

Sean Williams attended our school in the class of 2012 which was the first class to have all four of their years at Pride. His sister Danielle also attends our school and is currently in the 7th grade.

Sean always had a love of art and we’re so happy that his passion has taken him so far in life. His 8th grade mural of an African baby, representing the proverb ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, is still proudly on display in our school.

Today we would like you to meet Sean and learn about the amazing things he’s accomplished since graduating from Pride Academy.

What did you do after graduating from Pride Academy?

After graduating from Pride Academy, I went on to study at The Art Institute of Philadelphia and then transferred to Pratt Institute in New York. Currently, I run my own business, and I’m an RIAA-certified multi-platinum and gold cover artist.

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?

I’ve completed a lot of big projects over the years, including cover art for well-respected artists within the music industry, including: Dj Khaled, Flipp Dinero, Omari Hardwick, Lil Tjay, Lil Wayne, Sleepy Hallow, and Sheff G.

Murals are one of my favorite things to do! After the mural at Pride, I got commissioned for five other murals too.

My latest project is starting my own clothing line. The merch line drops really soon and I’m excited to share it with everyone.

How did Pride prepare you for high school and beyond?

Living with the core values and using them in my day-to-day life has helped me become the man I am today!

Pride Academy taught me how to live life to the fullest and never give up on my dreams. Every day is a new day, and you never stop learning…

Pride has trained me to uphold my values in my day-to-day life. It showed me to use my knowledge for the betterment of myself and those around me.

What were your favorite classes?

Math with Ms. Torres, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Simon; Gym with Mr. A; Spanish with Ms. Charussilapa; and Computer class with Ms. Becker.

Who were your favorite teachers at Pride and how did they impact your life?

Mr. Wilson, Mr. Simon, Ms. Charussilapa, Ms. Torres, Ms. Tynes, Mr. A, and Ms. Daley (social studies). They showed me that class can be just as fun as it is educational.

Are there any future community projects planned?

Nothing right now, but I’d love to do another mural for the city of East Orange.

What advice would you give new Pride Academy scholars?

Work hard, stay determined and find your passion!

I found my passion for art in 5th grade, and to this day I still enjoy drawing just for myself. Art has taken me places I never thought I’d get to, and I believe that anybody can reach their goals if they’re determined and passionate.

Be consistent and humble and the bag will never fumble! Most importantly, BE YOURSELF!
